Welcome to Real Talk with Reginald D. I'm your host, Reginald D. On today's episode, I have Annetta Powell. Annetta is known as the queen of digital products, doing an amazing job with everything she does. So welcome to the show, Annetta.

Welcome. I'm so glad to be here.

So glad to have you. So glad to have you. When I read a little about you and things about you. I was really blown away. I'm so glad you took the time to be on this podcast. I really feel like it's going to bless people.

Me too.

So you've been open, you know, about your past and things like that. So tell us a little bit about that.

All right. So let me tell you, so growing up, it was definitely unique for me. Uh, I was raised in a middle-class family and both my parents are deaf. They cannot hear or talk. And so, uh, that's kind of different. So for me, I was young, I was their interpreter, their advocate, their voice, you know, in any situations. And it pretty much taught me the responsibility earlier. And it also made me incredibly resourceful and creative when it came to communication and, you know, having deaf peers, it's like they have a fifth grade reading level. So I grew up doing sign language. And so fast forward. my first actual entrepreneurship journey. I was in real estate investing. Of course, we know the real estate market crash, right? So I end up getting into the tax preparation industry. I've done $13.5 million in a tax preparation industry. And what came? The pandemic. So he was sitting in the house. I'll never forget. It was 2019 and I was watching this lady. Her name was six figure chick. She died now. And so I bought her course. It was like $97 and you, I was like, you know what? I know how to do some real estate. So I ended up creating a course based off what she taught me. And I ended up making $34,000 in an hour, like within two hours on a webinar. So from that point on, I just moved on and I was like, you know what? I like digital products and this is where I'm at.

Wow. That's amazing. You took something like that and just say, Hey, I'm going to do this. And I know it wasn't easy. You know, I know it wasn't easy. So now when you think about it, you know, I think the real estate thing, you had a setback with that and things happened and you ended up, um, been incarcerated for a couple of years or something like that already, you know, but you bounce back out of all of that. I mean, a lot of people think that they're at the bottom sometimes when things happen for whatever reason that happens. Sometimes we just don't, we don't have our own knowledge about things that we do. And what made you just say, Hey, you know, I got to bounce back and I got to go get this.

Well, first off, I'm going to say this, you know, we can't say like, Oh, we didn't know. I'm just going to be very transparent. Like, you know, I knew like everybody was helping people with their down payments, you know, in the real estate. I just didn't think that you could really get in trouble for that. And so, of course, I got in trouble. I had to do 15 months in federal prison by actually paying people down payment. So what made me bounce back from that? You know what I was like, because a lot of times when people actually get in trouble, what happened, they closed down. And a lot of times they don't really like, they just be depressed. And I was like, listen, I ain't about to be indicted and broke. So what I started to do is I reinvented myself. And so that's pretty much how I got into the tax preparation industry. And as I was going through the legal procedures with my indictment, I was constantly reinventing myself. And so when it was time for me to go, I was like, you know what? I actually wrote down a hundred books. I mailed the actual list in. So I stopped at the post office because I didn't want to rely on nobody, mailed the actual list in. And when I got in there, a lot of girls, they read hood books. So it's like a bunch of drama books. I didn't even know what hood books was until I actually went to prison. And when I went to prison, I'm like, no, I'm not reading that. So I started reading different books and everything. And so when I got home, well, prior to me going home, my sisters, I was truly blessed because a lot of times You know, when people go to prison, they come home to nothing. Have you ever heard that story? Like, like everything gone, but my sisters actually held it together. And to this day, I'm very grateful. They all own tax preparation stores. And so when they were actually managing, I actually did $835,000 in sales. And when I got home, I made my first million dollars and it was because I was always working on myself and growing and I developed myself even more when I was in prison.

Wow, so you came home, you made your first million dollars.

Yeah, my first million. My first million, yes.

Wow, people can't even say that. They'd be working every day.

Exactly. It's just, you know, it's just really being persistent. And I think that's the key. You know, in order for you to be successful, you have to be willing to put that work in.

Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. And that's the whole thing. You have to be, you have that grind mentality, what it's all said.

Yes, you do. Yes, you do.

You know, I'm kind of guilty of that myself. You know, I just gotta get it, man. I can't sit around when it's all said and done. So on your journey, you had challenges, then you had some great things that happened to me. Who meets Oprah and Michelle Obama?

A blessing. Man, I wanted to meet Oprah. I met Oprah September 2014, and it was a privilege. She had a very warming spirit, as well as Michelle Obama. So that's true. I was blessed.

Yeah. So were y'all like some type of event or something? How did y'all, how did that come about?

Well, what happened, I remember Oprah Winfrey, she had, she went on tour and back in September, 2014, it was called The Life You Want. And of course, you know, you gotta pay to play. So she actually had a fee where you could meet her. And I paid the fee and I actually went backstage and we were able, she had like a setting where she talked to you, encouraged you. And then after that, we were able to officially meet her. Same thing with Obama. After she got through, you know, stage, they actually offered an actual fee to meet her. And I actually was able to meet Michelle Obama as well. So it was the same setup of meet and greet. Yeah.

Well, yeah, I will pay for them to all day. Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. So another, you know, Out of everything you've been through, how did faith in your mindset or support system play a role in your journey?

One thing I tell people every single day is, you know, me, I listen to a minimum of 15 minutes of motivation, whether it's Les Brown, it's Tony Robbins, you know, you have Eric Thomas. But I tell people that you have to be, you know, working on your mind. If you're not working on your mind, you know, you deal with a lot of thoughts and sometimes your thoughts take you all over the place. So what I do every day, even to this day, I listen to a minimum of 30 minutes, motivation and mindset to prepare my mind so that I can stay in the fight because you gotta be your biggest cheerleader and life be life. So you have to have those reinforcements and my reinforcement is listening to more than motivation, whether it's Tony Robbins, Les Brown. I go on YouTube, I pick it, and I get to walking. I walk five miles every single day, and I get to listening, and I get to walking, and every day it makes me stronger and stronger. So that has been a big journey of my success.

And that's very powerful because I'm telling you, I do the same thing in the mornings when I'm getting ready, motivational, you know, I have it all in my Spotify. I just hit it. Those same guys just speaking about this and that and the other, that starts my day. You know, something powerful about, like you say, the mind has so many thoughts and so many things going on, but when you get that powerful motivational thing going through your brain, then you can get hit that door and you're ready. Exactly. You know, no matter what comes, So Anitta, you're known as the queen of digital products. Now explain that to me.

Okay, I'm gonna explain it to you. So you know how you have a skill or you have some type of knowledge that people are always asking you about something you're good at and something you've learned through experience and deep down, right? You know it could be helping more people. And so what a lot of people don't realize is that you can actually take that knowledge and you actually can turn it into a digital product like an ebook, an online course, and you actually can package it up which is what you already know, create a digital product and you only got to create it one time, one time. And once you create it one time, people can buy this digital product anytime from anywhere. And you know what? The best part about this is once it's a setup, you can literally be making money while you sleep. And so that's what I loved about it. And it becomes another stream of income and one that does require you to, and it don't constantly require you to show up. Like it's not like you trading time for money. So I love it. So like I said, so if you ever felt like you're sitting on something or anybody feel like they sitting on something valuable, a skill, a story, you know, like an experience. I just want you to know that knowledge can be very powerful. And if you set it up strategically the right way, you actually can get paid for what you know. And so that's what I specialize in because someone out there is looking for what you know, which is knowledge and skillset.

That's amazing. I never thought of it that way.

Let me ask you something. Podcasting on a scale from 1 to 10, how good would you say? You're successful at it, right? You've got plenty of listeners all over the world, and people want to learn what you do. So you basically package it up in an e-book, a digital product setting, right? And you sell what you know.

That's amazing. I never thought of it like that.

People don't never think of it all the time. I come across people all the time and they don't think about it, you know? And I show them how to package it up in a digital product. And you will be surprised because it's like, you have a great platform. So if you talking to people, you know, hey, and you tell them about podcasting and you give them a link, you know, a certain, you know, like a keyword is different things that you could do. And just imagine you selling something for $27, 40 times a day. How much is that? $1,036. a day. That's $30,000 a month or something, you know.

Wow.

Wow.

I love it. I love it. And to think about it, you know, you're making money when you sleep. That's that thing. You ain't working. You're sleeping and you're making money.

Exactly. That's what I love about digital products.

So what lit a fire in you to start this?

Well, like I said, it was the pandemic, you know, and I was just sitting there. I was like, you know, during the pandemic, we had to sit in the house. You know, you was scared. We had our mask. I had one of them masks on, like the paint mask. You know, y'all had them masks on. I had that paint mask with the machines. I think we all was scared. So I'm sitting there just looking at different things to make money while I'm at home. And I was doing internet marketing just a little bit. I probably was making like two to 10,000, but I didn't really get my break until I sat in that house and I listened to a six figure chick and you know, I'm very blessed. And I mean, she just, it was just one video and I got it. And I went on there and I let my audience know, you know, the little audience that I had know that I was going to be doing a free webinar on real estate investing. I'll never forget. And they attended. And when I looked up, I had made $34,000 in two hours. Wow. How much do you think my biggest day was?

Oh, let me guess.

Biggest day.

Your biggest day.

My two biggest days.

Your two biggest days, $100,000.

No. My first biggest day was in 2022. I made $467,000 in a day. And just last year in actual June, I did $722,000 in a day. So I'm so focused to do a million dollars in a day. All from like creating and selling digital products.

That's incredible. And the thing about it, when you talk about the pandemic, I think that was the situation where people could bring the best out of what they had at that moment. You know, cause everybody's at home. If you had a creative mind, to do stuff. I know a lot of people just didn't never go back to work because they created things to get money.

You know, they had that unemployment money too.

Yeah, that too.

You know, some people got in trouble for it, but they had that unemployment money. So hopefully they figured something out and did something with it.

Right. Exactly. Exactly. So what's your advice to someone who wants to start selling digital products but doesn't know where to begin?

Well, you know, the first thing that I would do, I actually created something, you know, it's special. Well, pretty much I have an exclusive training. And I would give them access to it. It's going to basically teach you exactly how to do digital products, how to scale actually the four different steps that you need to create a digital product. And people may think that it's very complicated, but it's very simple. So I teach that in my blueprint, my digital product blueprint mastery system. And I actually can give it away to your audience.

Okay.

Exclusively.

Okay. I appreciate that.

You know what's so funny? I actually just launched this book. It's called how to turn your knowledge into cashflow. It's a new ebook. Nobody has it. I haven't even released it to nobody. And your audience will be the first to get that actual book.

Bless you. Bless you. Thank you so much. Thank you. So you mentor, I guess, thousands of people, you know, and what kind of mindset blocks, you know, people from trying to start online businesses?

Well, I have mentored actually thousands of people, but is it okay if I tell you about this one particular girl I was working with? So I've been working with an incredible woman. Her name is Aaliyah for over four years now. And before we crossed a path, she was working as a writer for Grant Cardone, you know, Grant Cardone? Okay. And she was super talented, but she knew deep down that she actually wanted to be an entrepreneur. So we met at one of Grant Cardone's actual business conferences and she told me straight up, she was like, listen, Annetta, I want to do my own thing, but I have no idea where to start. So check this out. So she ended up joining my actual program. Cause I used to teach people how to start a tax preparation business. And so I show her how to build a six figure, tax preparation business and from the ground up. And then just last year in June of 2024, I helped her take things to the next level by turning her knowledge into a digital product. And she actually did $25,000 within a 90-day span just by sharing what she know.

Wow.

Yep.

That's amazing, man. You have a gift and a talent that's out of this world.

Yeah, and so like I tell people, it's not just about income, it's about creating freedom, impact, and she has gotten a whole new level of confidence.

Right, because when you actually mentor people, one of the biggest challenges that I know in mentoring people is that you have to help them, you know, overcome all the stuff they think they can't do, you know, things like that. So I know you're running through that sometimes, maybe a lot, you know, you try to keep people motivated and And I guess the way you present the product is that it makes them want it at the end of the day, and not just throwing something out there that they don't really understand. But you hold their hand and you teach them.

You have to hold their hand, teach them, you have to build up people belief system. Yesterday, so I have a community, it's called the Digital Product Creators. So I have trainers, instructors, and it's like, it's over 300 people within the community. I just started it in June. And it was so, we had this actual mindset coach come in and he just talked about you know, you know, dealing with your childhood and just dealing with different things. And to me, I'm like, I got it. But it was so many people in there that was still dealing with stuff from their childhood. And so, you know, somebody asked me the other day, they said, Annetta, how do I go from being a one percenter? And I told her, you have to, you know, learning is a discipline and people don't understand that. Like I tell people, you need high skill sets. In order to become, you know, a millionaire and you just got to focus on one thing. And so the very first thing like I tell people you have to work on personal development and mindset and if they can work on their mindset and they can start building a belief system up and if they actually use the strategy, like you said, you actually listen to Spotify and I listen to YouTube. It will literally, you know, get them over that belief system because your mind is like play tricks on you. One to tell you, you can't do it. The other one to say, you can't do it. And then you have this JLB that say, well, you know what? I need, you know, my benefits. I need my healthcare insurance. I need my security. So people really be scared to step out, you know, And so I tell people all the time, you know, don't just quit your job. You got to build that belief system up and you got to be willing to put the work in. And what I love about digital products is, you know, it's it's not nothing that is not new that you have to like, it's not something new that you have to learn. It's like you're taking what you know, you're going to package it up. And that's the new way. Digital products is the actual new way of making money. And you create it one time and you get paid over and over and over. I sold one ebook 7,000 times for $27. I actually created the ebook April of 2024, and I've made over $180,000 with that ebook. And I created it one time. And everybody have Instagram. They have You know, Facebook, it's just a matter of hosting it consistently on your actual platforms and letting people know you have something that they want to know. And once you attract people to your actual, it's called a sales page. Uh, what will happen is people will buy your product. So that's the key. You know, it's just really around what you know, and people don't really understand that. And it can be cooking, uh, actual macaroni, you know, 10 steps, whatever you can name the actual macaroni. put it in a PDF, call it a cheat sheet, you could sell it for $19. So if 100 people go buy that, what is that? That's $1,900. And you got millions and millions of people on the internet. You know, Uber, I actually talk about Uber all the time. So yesterday I was talking about Uber. Do you know the story with Uber, with the three guys? They were literally sitting at the corner and they were waiting on a taxi and a taxi did not come. So they mastermind and created Uber. Last year, Uber, which is a digital product, it's a software. Have you used Uber before? We both don't know the owners. They made $44 billion, Googling. Wow.

Yes. Bad situation, they say, bump this.

$44 billion, it's 2024. You popping.

Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. And you said something a while ago. You were talking about people and believing in themselves and things like that. I always say a lot of people go through things in life and they always think it's you against them or you against the world. At the end of the day, it's you against you. And that's the way I look at it. It's you against you. That's what I did a podcast on last week. It's like, man, it's you against you. Whatever you want, whatever you desire for your life, you just got to believe in you and you got to go for it.

you definitely gotta go for it. And that's where what, the belief system kick in. Because a lot of people, you know, they think like, what do I need? Can I do this or that? It starts with, if you can get your mind right, like you said, it's you against you. And it's just making the decision that, you know what, I'm gonna take responsibility of my life and live my life by design. And it's just little steps because a lot of times what happens, a lot of people actually start something, but when it doesn't progress fast enough, they quit. You know, and it's like all the time I hear people say, I got multiple streams of income, but you ain't even got one, right? You know, not even one making, you know, $2,000, but you got all these different incomes. So it confuses you. So I teach people how it's just one stream at a time. It was real estate, it was taxes. And now if you go to any of my platforms, I only talk about digital products. That's it.

And the thing about it, you know, some people, like you said, they don't have past experiences. Don't think that they're, worthy enough to become a millionaire because how they grew up and they think it's just the way it's going to be in life, or they've been working a job, like you say, they are just, I need the benefits. I need this. I need that. So they're afraid to step out and do something different to enhance themselves and walk into who they really are. So if you go back and speak to the younger Annetta before the success, the struggles you've been through or the setbacks you've been through, what would you say to her?

I would have invested in myself way early on. I would have got the mentors. Like I have a degree right now in business management and you know, to be perfectly honest, although I got a business management degree, I did not actually like, like everything that I learned, I don't remember. And so, you know, I started back in 2001. I started with mentors. And so when I told you, you know, like I had a $467,000 day. I had a $722,000 day. I paid a mentor $155,000, two times. And because I was willing and not, you know how sometimes the average person wouldn't have spent that money. They would have said, I want a car, I want a house. But when you understand how powerful knowledge is, I was able to scale from knowing how to make $34,000 in two hours to now, you know, I can make a million, but it's still scaling and it's still a process. And the most I've done was $722,000. So if I could go back to my younger self, I would have started at 18. Going out, networking, meeting new people, you know, attending events. Like right now, it's a lot of young children growing up. And I mean, they millionaires, like you go to YouTube, you got them young kids, actually millionaires. or because they took the time to invest in yourself. And investing in yourself is truly important and people don't understand that. So that's what I would tell my younger self. Like I tell people all the time, regular education will make you a living, but you know, self-education will make you a fortune. So you have to take the time to be working on yourself every single day.

Yes, that's absolutely right. That's it. Because I always say, you know, the most expensive thing you got, it's not your house. It's not your cars. It's yourself.

And you know what I tell people also, it's two things in life. Either you're going to pay for not knowing or you're going to pay to know. You just got to pick which one you're going to choose because ignorance costs you a lot of money.

Yes.

A lot. You know, you be thinking you trying to Google your way to success, but once I learned the power of connecting with, you know, people that can actually shorten my learning curve up from decades to days, like now it became a no brainer. Like I met Aaliyah at Grant Cardone, actually been my very first event. I went there, paid $5,000 for the business training, turned around, and that was my first big investment. It was $25,000. Grant Cardone taught me how to market. I actually scaled my business. I paid $25,000. It was like a weekend seminar. Got back, I scaled my business a half a million dollars more in sales that year. Wow. Yeah.

That's investing in yourself, man. That's what happens when you invest in yourself and not investing in things.

Exactly, exactly.

So what's next for Annetta Powell? Also things you're about to do, movements? I mean, you're already moving.

What's next for me is just pretty much, you know, like I love digital products. I love traveling. My main thing is I tell people all the time, it's not about me. It's about how many lives you can change in the process. And you know, a lot of people, they just don't know. And so if I could show people like how to take what you know, because a lot of times, you know, ooh, Les Brown says something so, so good. He says, starting over is hard. So if I could show you how to take what you know, create a digital product with what you already know and make money, that's what I want to focus on. Like that's my new journey. I love it. You know, I love to listen to Les Brown. Like he actually spoke at one of my events three years ago. Now I talked to him last week. He says something powerful too. He said one out of every 10 people will execute. And that's so true. One out of every 10. And so you have to be willing to, you know, you know, take life on and be able to put the work in and embrace learning. You know, a lot of times we don't embrace learning. We finished college and we think we got it all together. But I always tell people and anybody that's listening to this podcast, have you ever learned how to make a million dollars in college? Nobody has raised their hand since I always asked that. And so the question is, you got to be able to step out on faith and you got to be able to make a change if you really want to make a difference in your life.

And then you have to walk in your own authentic self. That's the biggest thing.

That's what I love about, uh, you know, you know, just, you know, digital marketing and just like people think when you create content, you have to be a fake person. You just gotta be yourself. Like you just have to be okay with your story. And I'm telling you, I tell people all the time, share your story with people. Cause people don't understand that their story will help somebody else. Like, you know how many people reach out to me? that got out of prison that I give hope to, that say, because of you, you know, I know I can do it. Thank you. And then I wrote a book, Indicted to Ignite It. And so I left that actual book back. I sent it back to prison. I had a girl from prison write it, a good writer. And so when I got out, I got it edited by an editor and everything, sent it back. So many people reach out to me and say, Annetta, because of you, I was able to do this. Or, you know, because of you, I know that I can become that person that I desire to be. And I just tell people, now it's like, you just got to stay within God's principle. Doing hooking and crooking and doing all that extra stuff, it's just not worth it. And there's too many ways to make money right now for you to be trying to be hooking and crooking and doing all that criminal stuff. It's just not worth it.

It's not, not at all. And you have the recipe, what I call, in what you do. You make all this money, but then you understand that God has given you something special. And then you take it and then you give back to people, say, hey, come with me. Let me show you another way. Let me show you how to be you. I mean, you're vested in people with your time and with your teachings and all the stuff you're doing. And that's what's going to keep you elevated and going higher in life. Because what I'm saying is, I set you apart for such a time as this. I gave it to you, Annetta. And what you doing with it? And you doing it. And he's going to be with you all the way. And I'm like you. It's so many ways to make money. I mean, but it's so many ways to do a lot of things in life. But I always say that if it doesn't line up with the word, that's the way I am. I'm not doing it. Bottom line. Yeah, it ain't worth it.

It ain't worth it at all. A little down payments for them people for them 15 months, baby. And it got real when they say, Uh, you know, in prison, they say like, it ain't nothing to do. You sit down, you sit down for real. And so I'm glad that I'm able to, you know, I think about that and I'll be like, it's just not worth it. You just got to stay within his principles and you stay within his principles and you do what you're supposed to do. You don't have to worry about getting in trouble or facing any prison time.

Yes. Yes. And you can sleep better at night too.

What? Sleep real good.

I know, right?

Yes.

So, Annetta, you have a remarkable story. And lastly, I appreciate you coming on, but lastly, I want to ask this question. How can people find you on social media and sign up for your digital program?

Well, first off, it's the exclusive actual e-book, and I'm also doing an exclusive training. So, I don't allow a lot of people to actually come to that training, but you know what? It was great. I had fun with you. So, basically, they can go to Instagram, my Instagram, Annetta Powell, so, A-N-N-E-T-T-A, Powell, and they need to DM me cashflow, C-A-S-H, flow. And when they actually DM me cashflow, I'll make sure I send that actual ebook, that exclusive ebook, as well as the exclusive invitation to actually join my actual training so they can understand what digital products is all about.

Awesome. Annetta, bless you. Bless you.

Thank you so much. And I had such a nice time and it's great I was able to meet and connect with you. And you know what? Can I tell your actual audience something?

Yes.

Okay. Basically what I actually want them to know is that this was a great experience and I want to make sure like the questions that you asked me were really good and I want them to make sure they give you a five star rating wherever they are listening from because you are amazing.

Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you so much.

Likewise. They listening. They listening. I need y'all to stop what y'all doing and do something right and give him a five star rating. I'm going on. They give you a fast start soon as we get off.

Thank you so much.

The way you show up, the way you ask questions and the value you bring through this podcast is very powerful. And like I said, you're not just creating content, you're creating impact. And so with that said, the most they can do is give you a five-star rating and a review wherever you're listening from.

Thank you so much. God bless you.
