Welcome to Real Talk with Reginald D's Motivational Culture Question and Answer segment. I'm your host, Regina D. In today's episode, we'll be tackling a big question from one of my listeners. The question is, Regina D, why do I give up on my New Year's resolutions so quickly? Now, I already know, some of y'all set those resolutions with big energy on January 1st, but by mid to end January, it's gone. your new gym membership starts collecting dust, that new diet turns into cheap meals every day. That business idea, still just an idea. But here's the thing, it really is not your fault. There's a reason why 91% of people failed their resolutions, and today I'm gonna break it down. We're talking about why you give up so fast, how to fix it, And I'll give you a challenge to make sure you finish strong this year. So grab your notebook, turn up your volume, and let's jump into it. All right, so let's keep it 100% real. Most of us fail at our resolutions because we set them wrong from the start. We have the desire to get this goal done. We started off excited, motivated, and ready to change. But the reality is we set our goals too big and too fast, expecting instant results. And when we don't see progress quick enough, we lose steam and give up. Now look, I'm all for dreaming big. Dreams are necessary and goals are powerful. But if your goal is too big with no roadmap, no strategy or realistic steps, then you're setting yourself up to fail. Think about it. You say I'm going to lose 50 pounds, but you don't even have a plan for how you eat this week. You say I'm going to start a business, but you haven't even researched what you need. You say I'm going to read 50 books this year, but haven't finished one in the last three years. Big dreams and goals are great, but without a plan, they're just wishes. Instead, shift your mindset. Instead of I'll lose 50 pounds, say I'll lose one pound a week by walking 30 minutes a day. Instead of I'll start a business, say I'll spend 30 minutes researching my business idea every day. You have to remember that small consistent actions beat big vague goals every single time. Another reason you may quit early is that you never had a real why behind your goal. Do you ever wonder why some people grind every day, no matter how they feel? It's because they have a strong why. If you don't have a deep reason behind your goal, it's way too easy to quit when life happens. If you say, I want to lose weight, just because it's a New Year's theme, you'll quit. But if you say, I want to lose weight so I can play with my kids without giving out a breath, now that's a reason. Ask yourself this question. Why do I really want this goal? What happens if I give up? Now, write down your why and put it somewhere where you will see it every day. Now, another reason you may be giving up too soon is that you rely on motivation instead of discipline. Sometimes you're not going to feel motivated every day, and that's OK. I don't. But what you need is discipline. This way means you do what you say you're going to do, even if you don't feel like it. Stop waiting to feel like it. Do it anyway. Set a non-negotiable. Like, I will work out three times a week, no matter what. Now, three times a week, it could be any day. It doesn't have to be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, Friday, Saturday. You can pick your days. Put it in your schedule and make it as normal as brushing your teeth. And remember, The people who win are the ones who stick with it on the days they don't want to. Now that we know why we fail, let's talk about how to actually win. The first thing you will want to do is to make it really easy to start. So make it simple. If you want to work out, start five minutes a day. You want to write a book, write one paragraph a day. You want to save money, start by saving $1 a day. The easier it is to start, the harder it is to quit. Next, you should track your progress. What gets measured gets done. Use a habit tracker, apps, calendar, notebook, doesn't matter. Seeing your progress builds momentum and it keeps you motivated. And we've all heard that accountability is the key. It keeps us on track and pushes us forward and reminds us why we started in the first place. So get an accountability partner. Find someone who won't let you quit and encourage each other to keep pushing. All right, now here's where the real work begins. I'm giving y'all a challenge for the week ahead and I call it the tiny win challenge. Pick one goal you keep failing at. Choose a tiny version of that goal that's impossible to fail. Do it every day for seven days. And here's an example for you. If you want to work out, do one pushup a day. If you want to eat healthy, eat one healthy meal a day. If you want to save money, put a dollar in your savings every day. After seven days, you'll prove to yourself that you can be consistent. And that's how success starts. Listen, y'all, success is about commitment. This is your year, but it won't be different unless you are. No more waiting for perfect timing. Start now. No more setting goals with no plan. Break it down. No more quitting when it gets hard. Push through. You got this. Now go make it happen. To my listener, thank you for your question. and I truly hope it helps you and any other listener who may be giving up.
